Frequently asked questions
- Do I have to record the odometer at every fill-up?
- No. The odometer is optional. If you skip it, that entry still counts toward your total spent and total volume, but the calculator won’t be able to compute economy (mpg or L/100km) for that fill-up. Economy is only calculated between two consecutive entries that both have an odometer reading.
- Is my fuel log stored on a server?
- No. Every fill-up you record stays in your browser’s local storage. There’s no account, no login, and nothing is uploaded. If you clear your browser data the log is gone — export to CSV regularly if you want a backup.
- Does it work for electric vehicles?
- Yes. If your saved vehicle is electric, the energy column is in kWh instead of litres or gallons, and economy is shown in kWh/100km or kWh/100mi depending on your country.
- Why is my real economy different from the EPA / NRCan rating?
- The official rating is a controlled-lab estimate. Real-world economy varies with driving style, weather, terrain, vehicle age, and the use of accessories like the air conditioner. Logging your actual fill-ups over months gives you a far more honest number for your driving.
